2 Weeks of Easter

For us, the Easter holidays means our children are at home for 2 weeks. To help us make sure this time is fun-filled, along with the chocolate eggs and hot cross buns, we also like to stock up on ideas to keep them busy, entertained and maybe even learning by stealth too.
Of course, we will have our I'm Bored Guide at the ready as it is packed with as many ideas as there are eggs in the Easter bunny's basket. It includes everything from energetic games to how to get creative with screen time, to our favourite family friendly podcasts, to a template for getting some help with the household chores. We like to have a printed out copy at hand, but we also download it onto our phones to flick through in a hurry or even when out and about.

But although The I'm Bored Guide is a general guide to keep our kids aged 6-12 busy, what about some Easter themed ideas we can add in too? Here are some little activities you might want to add into the mix, based around the I'm Bored Guide's themes with an Easter twist.

ENERGETIC
The Easter Egg Escape Room
Set up a treasure hunt around the house. Here's how:
On a bit of paper write HAPPY EASTER (or whatever you like) in big letters. Cut them out into egg shapes. There's a printout HERE if you want it.
Hide them all over your house and garden - make it tricky.
Put some easter treats in a container with a lid. On top of the shut lid put a bit of paper or some masking tape with 11 dashes on it. Leave a pen nearby.
Tell the kids they need to find the eggs and crack the code to open the treats. Let them run off around the house finding all the letter eggs.
Once they've got them, they can solve the anagram, write it onto the container and then open it for the treats.

If you want to, you could hide the letters inside plastic eggs. Or put them with tiny chicks. Shop for them HERE on our Amazon affiliate shop Easter List, and don't forget to encourage them to hide them too!

Alternatively there is this old game of Daisy's on her Five Minute Mum website - CRACK THE EGG! It was written for when her children were little, and just learning letters and numbers, but you could easily upgrade it with spellings, jokes or times tables questions inside the eggs.

LEARNING
Ideas to keep those chocolate filled noggins ticking over whilst they're off school
Plant up an egg box with some seeds. If you plant mustard cress seeds they will grow quickly, and within the two weeks you will be able to enjoy them in an egg and cress sandwich! See how to here:
Liz has shared some Easter Learning games on her Playful Learning Games website. Click HERE to get the printouts for free or watch the video below. (Reminder, the plastic eggs are on our shop!)
Or perhaps download one of our learning guides? Perfect for a game every day across the 2 weeks! Pick from spellings, handwriting, reluctant readers or perhaps the Anything guide - perfect for learning ANYTHING in the holidays. What skills do you want to level up on?
EARNING
The Secret Item Game
When the house or a particular room has become overwhelmingly messy at a certain point in the holidays, tell them you are all going to play the secret item game. You all tidy the room together but tell them that there are certain items that once picked up and put away, earns them an extra £1 in their piggy bank (or any reward of your choice).
As you tidy, keep watch of them and when it's near the end of the job shout 'you won, it was that' to an item they've just picked up. Make sure you do one item for each child!
Wishing you all a very happy Easter filled with all your favourite choccies but most importantly time with those we love most.
